Learn more about our Awardees and their journeys.
We would like to recognize Latino-owned businesses that have helped shape Wisconsin’s economy into what it is today. These entrepreneurs have played a vital role in driving innovation, job creation, and cultural diversity across our communities. Their contributions extend far beyond commerce — they reflect resilience, vision, and a deep commitment to growth.
Through this recognition, we aim to spotlight both the businesses and the people behind them, sharing their journeys, challenges, and successes. By celebrating their impact on Wisconsin’s economy, we honor the legacy they are building and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs to continue strengthening our state’s economic and cultural landscape.

Robert Montemayor began his entrepreneurial journey in Milwaukee with a money service business on South 13th Street, built on trust, hard work, and a deep connection to the community. In 2010, that same commitment inspired the creation of Monterrey Market, a family-owned grocery store rooted in his Hispanic heritage and dedicated to serving local families with pride and purpose.
Robert’s values extend beyond business. As a proud father, he has supported his country through his two sons, who serve in the Navy and the Air Force. Monterrey Market quickly became a beloved neighborhood cornerstone, known for quality products, welcoming service, and a strong sense of community.
Driven by the desire to reach even more residents, Robert expanded Monterrey Market with a second location on South 27th Street in 2020. Opening during the challenges of a global pandemic, the store’s launch was a success and today provides careers for more than 150 team members.
Robert and Monterrey Market actively give back through raffles, anniversary celebrations, holiday gift basket giveaways, and partnerships with local organizations. The business proudly collaborates with the Milwaukee Police Department in annual events such as trunk-or-treat and has received certificates of appreciation for its community involvement.
Robert serves as President of the Crisol Corridor BID 50 and holds board roles with BID 43, Gateway BID #40, and the Basilica of St. Josaphat Foundation. He also supports charitable causes through partnerships with groups like the Salvation Army, Milwaukee Christian Center, and cultural celebrations such as Frida Fest MKE
